Narrow Neck Plateau Trail E-Bike Adventure - Katoomba, Blue Mountains (Intermediate)

From AUD $187.00
  • Duration: 5 Hours (approx.)
  • Location: Katoomba, NSW
  • Product code: XTRA-NARR

Narrow Neck Plateau is one of the most beautiful rides in the Blue Mountains, and one most visitors never get to see. This long sandstone ridge runs south from Katoomba with sheer cliffs on both sides: the Megalong Valley drops away to the west, the Jamison Valley to the east, and the landscape keeps changing beneath your wheels as you ride. Even the trees change along the way.

At the end of the trail near Tarros Ladders, the view opens up over a huge expanse of wilderness, stretching out toward Lake Burragorang and the Kanangra-Boyd wilderness. Keep your eyes open along the way too: there's plenty of birdlife, lizards sunning themselves on the trail, and if you're lucky, a lyrebird.

Is This Ride for You?

This is an intermediate ride: 30km return from our Katoomba town centre pickup, with around 850m of climbing, on a wide fire trail. You don't need to be an experienced mountain biker. Plenty of our riders are simply people who feel confident on a bike, and the e-bike takes care of the hard work on the climbs.

The trail surface does include loose rock and some steep sections, so ride at your own pace. If a hill looks too steep, jump off and walk your bike down it. That's always a smart move, and there's no shame in it.

This ride is suited to adults and older teens, with a minimum rider height of 150cm.

Want the big views with less climbing? Our Hanging Rock ride is a gentler option, with one of the most spectacular lookouts in the mountains.

Prefer a regular mountain bike for the full workout? Standard mountain bikes are available on request.

Before Your Ride

The evening before your ride, we'll email you everything you need:

  • A map pin to our pickup point at Katoomba Town Centre Motel, 218-224 Katoomba Street, a 3-minute walk from Katoomba Station
  • A link to your online waiver, which must be completed before you ride
  • Our safety and skills video series: five videos covering bike-riding fundamentals, how to ride more safely and confidently, and how to change a tyre tube

How Your Ride Starts

Meet-and-greet in Katoomba: We'll meet you at Katoomba Town Centre Motel to fit you to your bike, helmet and gloves, go over the safety briefing from your videos, and run through the route with you before you set off.

Bike hub pickup: If we're not able to meet you in person, we can arrange by prior agreement to have your bikes ready at our bike hub at the same motel, so you can collect them and go.

Your Route

Navigation is simple: you'll get a map pin that takes you all the way to Tarros Ladders at the end of the trail.

Ride out of town to Cliff Drive and down Glenraphael Drive to the start of the fire trail. The access road is currently closed to cars, so from here it's just you, other riders and walkers.

Follow the ridge south along the plateau, stopping wherever the views grab you. Then turn around and enjoy it in reverse. This is an out-and-back ride, so the climbs you earned on the way out become fast, fun descents on the way home.

On your return, you can detour along Cliff Drive to Echo Point and the Three Sisters before dropping your bike back in town.

Why an E-Bike?

On foot, the full Narrow Neck trail is a long, hard day. On an e-bike you'll reach the end of the plateau and be back in Katoomba with energy to spare, enjoying the views instead of just surviving the hills. If you've already done the popular walks, or you want more adventure than a lookout without the commitment of canyoning or abseiling, this is the ride.
